A historic home in Jacksonville was transformed from traditional and outdated, to refreshing and modern in order to fit the needs of the new homeowners. In the kitchen, we kept the beautiful and sophisticated travertine counters however refaced the new doors, backsplash, and included additional built-ins. The shaker style cabinets add a fresh look with the brass handles in contrast to the countertops. The renovation also includes new floors and lighting, updated appliances, and a wall mounted microwave station. A reclaimed work bench sits in the center of the kitchen as an island centerpiece to eat breakfast and cook.
Each bathroom includes updated finishes and fixtures to provide a modern feel, with a nod to the past. The first thing noticed when stepping into the bathroom, is the fun hex pattern on the floors. Bringing tile into the shower allows you to make any space appear larger and creates a nice accent piece. The marble flows well with the flooring, using similar colors in the grey color palette. We juxtaposed these colors in the furniture by using warm tones to give dimension.
Overall, the geometric shapes, clean lines, and finishes throughout the various rooms and halls give a fresh look while still preserving the historic integrity of the home. In the end we were able to create a unity by utilizing similar schemes through the home, bringing everything together.
